There is food at home
It is common knowledge amongst Africans and Nigerians in particular (speaking for my country people wen I sabi o! ), that we would rather save our money for other household things than on eating out.
Reasons being
1 - our head is calculating how many pots of soup or loaves of bread that money would buy instead
2 - we fear the menu may be overrated; 'not as nice as my aunt's cooking'
3 - we may have already eaten to the full before stepping out and also have a backup snack in tow.
As a result, any child who starts whining and pining for any 'snacks' in sight or for a drop in at an eatery they just passed, gets a standard answer:

As a result, any child who starts whining and pining for any 'snacks' in sight or for a drop in at an eatery they just passed, gets a standard answer:
'There is food at home'.
Maybe, not everyone says that but if you ask the average African child or young person, the verdict would be the same.
That being said, we do eat out and we do appreciate fine cuisine. More likely than not, such outings would have been motivated by things like, family or friends birthday celebrations, guys dating girls wanting to make a good impression, seasonal outings or the cook at home just can't be bothered that day. Sometimes too, we visit on a lunch break, when a cold sandwich and crisp don't cut it for the work ahead or when far away from our stash of cooked food in the fridge, like when away on a work trip.
Whilst we are so hands on with our cooking, I realise that one of the ways African cuisine and Caribbean cuisine can be appreciated is by our validation of the efforts of our many talented eatery owners and caterers.
So we need to visit them more often and those who have should 'noise' the Eatery or Caterer's fame. We should help with constructive advice where there is room for improvement or simply let the world know that they are brilliant. We need to advertise our food.
The game is on and all eyes are on us (Africa and The Caribbean Islands) now.
We still have loads of unprocessed and health boosting foods to be explored.
In the image below is a plan for us to truly get our game on and The Food Hut is committed to pushing through.
Join the campaign;
Send us your African and Caribbean Food snaps to share via 'The Food Hut Gallery' and help a brother, a sister or a food enthusiast find the goodness you appreciate in your food. You may even be in with a chance to win a voucher for your effort too. ๐
Yes, we know #thereisfoodathome ๐ฅ, go on, eat out anyway and send us your pics.
Thanks xx

Korede's Africoal: a closer look
Yessss! ๐ Summer is settling in more and more and people tend to become more creative with their lunch and eating out ideas. Uh hmm...
So, I went out to discover indeed and I wasn't dissapointed
Easy to locate: the eatery name alone brought me straight here on my google maps navigation
Strategically placed by the Mill Road roundabout on Brook Street, a free parking lot is a few minutes walk across the road from it.

Easy to locate: the eatery name alone brought me straight here on my google maps navigation
Strategically placed by the Mill Road roundabout on Brook Street, a free parking lot is a few minutes walk across the road from it.
Food Style: African inspired BBQ grills of assorted meats and fish, side snacks, your regular sandwich rolls, burgers, chips etc. You are spolit for choice actually. There are nicely chilled drinks to accompny the food too.
Service:For a quick work lunch or Dinner at home, Korede's Africoal is the place to go.
Orders can be taken online or over the phone, for delivery as far as Dartford and Abbeywood.
Your ๐ tasty food is typically ready for collection or delivery 15 - 20 mins later unless advised differently beforehand and the 'spicyness or lessness' as you prefer, is taken into consideration. They are also mindful of any allergens you indicate that you have concerns about.
Neat seating spaces are also available for you to eat as you watch Erith go by. ๐๐
Bulk orders can also be taken based on individual consultations.
Opening times; Monday to Saturday noon till 11pm and Sunday 1pm till 9pm
Testimonial: A man in the next shop came out as I was passing by to say, 'The best burgers and chips I have ever had come from Korede's Africoal. Every one should buy from here. It would knock your block off' ๐
You would probably have to buy yours to get a feel of what he meant or felt.
I left with mine;
The Fave rave - Jollof Rice and Lamb Ribs Suya or Grilled Lamb Ribs as their customers call it and a cold drink escort. ๐๐๐๐ฃ๐
Your turn now,off you go; for your choice meal from their menu and let us know how it goes.
Don't forget to say you heard of them from Fally Jay of The Food Hut.

A 'Sympli' yam competition in London!!! #theyamstoryuk
Morning peeps!
Our people have been busy!!!! ๐
Two London Chefs from
Kenya Coffee House and Enish Restaurant
slog it out in a 'Yam cook-off ' to prove who can best handle our much loved 'Sympli' yam products.
See just how much more you can learn about cooking yam..๐
Enjoy ๐!
After watching all that, do the next best thing:
Visit either restaurant and ask for a yam dish
or visit the shops (๐ yeah, Tescos, Morrissons, Asda or Ades Cash and Carry etc) and buy your 'Sympli' frozen yam cubes or fries to cook up a storm in your kitchen.
I would be personally glad to post pictures of your results, most especially if you are new to the whole yam thing. You can do this @FJafrocaribbeanfoods, the business page for the Food Hut.
Thanks for keeping #theyamstoryuk going,

Big up to The Fung Bros. ..........
These gentlemen took a tour of Nigeria in America (yup!) and ate some #poundedyam amongst other things (๐
just trying to keep #theyamstoryuk link going ..๐)
I decided to share this because it was a really good video exploring the diversity of some #nigeriandishes from the view of a non indigene.
In this video, the brothers described 'pounded yam as really dense mashed potatoes' which is a reasonable description actually.
These boys were really brave.... see for yourself ๐

Edirin at Deptford #afrocaribbeanpopupcatering
'Edinrin', the name of an industrious young man at work during the regular market days at Deptford High Street in London.
The pictures below speak for themselves. ๐
I say we need more of such, particularly in the city. Definitely worth duplicating in our various city hotspots.
It is a good way of bringing our 'good food' to those who never tasted such too.
Well done Edinrin. ๐ ๐๐ช๐

รkรณ food market - an open secret in Charlton SE7 (Grocer Review)
You know how it is with us, we keep to tried and tested tracks only until someone assures us of something new?
Well, yesterday I decided to stop by รkรณ Food Market and I was pleasantly surprised.
The shop has the set up of someone who knows what they are about, very well organised and neat.
A moderate sized shop with well packaged and presented Afro Caribbean food products, some even shop branded.
There's a cooked foods counter for your typical African/Nigerian dishes. The Romanian clerk who says his name is 'Ayodeji ๐' even gave me a little taster. The food was ๐ yum!
To make matters better, they offer weekend all you can eat buffets (๐ฎ) with a dedicated seating area for it, as well as catering services on request.
So much more to say, but I will let the pictures do the rest.
One thing I know is that the lady (Jollofe brand owner) is on to a good thing and will definitely be one to watch and patronise.

Dinner with friends at K- Spice Erith ๐๐
Address: 13 Pier Rd, London, Erith DA8 1TA
http://www.kspiceafrorestaurant.com/
http://www.kspiceafrorestaurant.com/
It was a Friday evening and relatively quiet. We phoned ahead the day before to confirm our order to ensure its availability on the day.
Here are some pictures from the outing:
All in all a very good day, all the meals went down well. If you like hot and spicy, you can definitely get it there.
Good sized portions served so you need to be hungry. Especially...for the isi-ewu. Extra Grande size!
Ambience is clean, nice and friendly.
If you find yourself in the area, give it a try. It is good value for good food. You may even want to start their loyalty scheme too.
Oki Doki, that's all for now.
Let us know if you would like us to review your restaurant or if you can cook up a storm, serve a crowd with ease or you are just too good at what you do making African and Caribbean dishes.
